There was one missionary, right now I can't think where, and this "could" have been a branch overseer, was DF'd for visiting prostitutes. His answer to the question why? was he felt he deserved it after all of his many years of faithful service.

796 infant skeletons have been found discarded in a septic tank at the former mother and baby home run by the catholic church in ireland between 1925 and 1961.. unwed mothers were sent these "magdelene asylums" to be treated like criminals.
their babies - if they survived - were taken from them.
if they did not survive their bodies were thrown into a septic tank and forgotton.
Lol... Looks like you found yourself some fun. I have not been to the Carolina's or Georgia or Virginia.
I do not really have any Irish blood. Lots of English and Scottish.
I will PM you who is my Irish relative.

i took up cycing a couple of months ago just to get fitter and lose a bit of excess weight.. i bought a second-hand hybrid bike (weighs only slightly less than a truck) and fitted road tyres.
four or five times a week i will go for a ride after work for an hour or so.
i am fortunate enough to live in rural north england surrounded by limitless quiet roads.
What a beautiful spot you live in!

Jeannette... Yes, Thank you. I just finished reading, educating myself very briefly on this subject. I am astounded. I had no idea.

Jeannette, I have old family ties to the South. It is very interesting to read what you say. I have never heard that before. I never heard of white "folk" being slaves.
If you have the opportunity to talk with this fellow again, I am very curious about his story and what part of Tennessee he was from.
You were considered "black" I believe if you had up to 1/8th blood in you. I don't really have very much Irish blood in me so have not read up on any of their early American 'dis'adventures .

Nathan Natas ... Would you encourage anyone to eat at Ivar's? I have eaten there and sometimes it is fantastic. The last time, not so good.
Has it been okay lately?

Hey Cha-Ching, Maybe I did see you! lol
Sunday, I remember the last day, Sunday.
We had 7 extra people staying in our house. Three came a week before so we could do the usual. Visit Disneyland, go to the beach, go shopping, Hollywood etc. There were 5 of us.
There were 4 brothers who were night guards, so they slept and enjoyed our house during the day.
The 3 were my mom's old girlfriend from the mid west and her husband and son. They were big time farmers. Their oldest was a missionary, somewhere.
I don't remember the wife's name. The husband yes. His name was Jim H. The reason he married his wife is (as the story goes told to me by my mom) was because she was pregnant. She was sleeping with 3 different guys, so when she found out she was pregger's , she went to each one, and the first one that said he would marry her, got her and the soon baby. Anyway, they were staying in the house too. We had 3 bathrooms, so it wasn't too bad sharing.
My Dad had an official job assignment at the convention, that he needed to be early for, so cars were going out at different times, and coming back at different times. I really did not eat much or sleep much or drink much water, during those 8 days.
I started feeling ill at the convention on that last Sunday. I was with my friends RF who is now an Elder in Florida and my friend LP who left the JW's decades ago. They helped me to a cool spot out of the stadium, under a tree. I sat on the concrete curb. RF got me some wet paper towels for my face, neck and head and a drink of water from somewhere. The rest of the day was a blur until the end when it was all over. Then there was a brother on a flat bed truck trying to sell the left over potted plants that were used for the stage decorations. He said, "Step right up here and get your petunias. Only $???. Step up and buy this plant. This plant was right next to Bro Knorr as he was giving his talk". The guy had a funny sense of humor trying to get rid of those plants. lol
I will not be going this summer or any other summer. My days sitting in the hot sun, listening to men droning on and on about invisible beings doing magical things for JW's, is over.
I don't remember any food at that convention.
My Dad had a cooler full of ice with chilled drink cans for those who were assigned to help him. I was too young to help and I don't really like to drink pop.
School started in a week. It is funny in LA back then, Since all the national newspapers would be advertising the latest back to school fashions, kids in LA would have their mom's buy them new clothes too. Clothes to wear in most other States in Sept like wool pleated skirts, would be worn that first day of school, then discarded until Dec and Jan. Sept. is way too hot in LA. It is not the weather for 100% wool pleated skirts. lol
